Today’s topic is, “Top 3 Easy SEO Factors”
Hello everyone, it is Friday, January 6, 2017. I'm John Peterson with Develare and this is the Friday Roundup. What I wanted to talk about today is some SEO. I know many of you ask questions about what can I do to my site to improve SEO and what can I do here, what can I do there? Yes, SEO can be very technical, however, what Google's really trying to do is they're really just trying to find out what your page is all about. The top three ways that you can do that without being a super hardcore SEO guy or hardcore developer are to modify these three key areas. Before you do that, I'm going to assume you have a content management system in place, something like WordPress, I'm going to assume you have a SEO type plugin. One of our favorites is the Yoast SEO Plugin for WordPress. If you have WordPress, you have this SEO plugin, the Yoast SEO Plugin, you'll be able to do all of these three things pretty easily.
What are they? One. I would go through and go to the page or the post that you have in WordPress and modify the URL with the SEO keyword that you're trying to use. Let's say your company name is like www.example.com and you're keyword is, let's say, chocolate ice cream. Www.example.com/chocolate-ice-cream, boom, that's your URL, and then another forward slash at the end. That's the first one.
The second thing you really need to be doing is making sure that your page title is correct. In this case, pretty easy, in WordPress, your in the page editor, at the very top it's got that title there, that's your page title. Chocolate ice cream, that's what you need to put in there.
The third thing that you need to do is to make sure that your SEO title is correct, and that's where the Yoast SEO Plugin comes in. Go down to the bottom, you'll notice a little SEO area that Yoast creates for you, hit edit snippet, change that snippet area so that it says chocolate ice cream. Then maybe you could do something like a little pipe after chocolate ice cream, put your company name in there. Since you've got space in there, you could totally do that, as long as your company name's not too long. It would be chocolate ice cream, space, the pipe character, that up and down character, another space, since the company name is example, then we'd just put example, and that's your SEO title.
The caveats here, make sure you've got WordPress, the Yoast SEO Plugin, and then also your template needs to be coded correctly so that it can put all of these things out in a proper manner. Most templates are fine, some are not, they weren't coded correctly, but most templates are coded correctly. You've got your template from a pretty good, reputable environment, or reputable template place, you'll be in good shape. That's the Friday Roundup for today. I picked a nice a sweet, short and sell for you all. Those are the top three. If you have any questions, be sure to add them to the comment area down below. Always happy to see a like on the videos, and thank you for tuning in. I'm John Peterson with Develare.
